We popped in to McDonalds on Scotch Street today for a crafty quarter-pounder with "cheese" and came across Tom Piatak loitering somewhere near the counter. He spoke to us about his order:
“We've been working on this now for three weeks and it's been a very thorough and deliberate process,"
"I would say the amount and variety of options on the menu has been amazing. I mean, almost overwhelming, but despite being starving hungry we wanted to take our time, and complete a very thorough, deliberate process.
“We've done that. We finalised our preferences over the weekend and we're very close to approaching the staff and ordering some food. We're very confident that we found the right sandwich and we're going to be moving forward with the appropriate meal deal.”
Tom was impressed by the standard of choices available, he said: “I’ve been thoroughly impressed. It was a tough process because of the delicious looking food on offer.
“That tells me we're doing something right for lunch. I know we haven't eaten any food yet, but that's why we're looking to place an order and bring a sandwich and some fries in.
“I'm confident that once they're in and we taste how delicious they are, we'll no longer be hungry.”
Tom also spoke on how he’d found the process, given that this is his first experience of ordering McDonalds in the UK, he said: “It's been very interesting. We've used a lot of the methodology that we use in other lunches.
"It was a panel decision. There were multiple people involved and that way, everybody gets a good look at the burgers.
“Because sometimes when you're choosing from the menu, you see the McChicken sandwich and you get fixated on that, but you miss the McRib. So by having seven or eight individuals involved in the process of selecting, I'm confident that we ended up with the right refreshments.
“I think the club, Cumbria and Carlisle in general is going to be very pleased with our lunch selection.”
We asked Tom if, all being well, he expects his lunch to arrive before for the Swindon game, he said:
“Yes, I do. I think that the announcements will be going out shortly. I'm thrilled with the selection that we've made and the choices that we've made.
“It's the right sandwich to satisfy my hunger. And I just can't wait for everybody to see what it is, how it looks and what it smells like. I think everyone will be very pleased with my new food order.”
"I can't comment further on the rumours I'm spending $200,000 on a Fillet-o-Fish. But what I can say is it's 50/50. Either it will be a Fillet, or it will not be."
