What tactical shit show that was. It’s common knowledge Fleetwood play with four advanced midfielders (see the preview on this site) so Rudd and the boys decide to McGeouch as a deep lying playmaker all by himself. Tactical suicide. No surprise we find ourselves two goals behind. The referee showed us some sympathy with an incredibly soft penalty and then McGeouch pops up in an advanced position (take note – he needs to play further forward) to create the equaliser. Then followed some chaotic substitutions, we lose our shape subbing McGeouch and bringing Vela on and the game is lost. Yes, we have some incredibly cr*p players, but the bizarre tactics and substitutions didn’t help.
Lewis – 1 – Hard to imagine a worse keeper yet he keeps the shirt every single week. It would make a refreshing change to see a goalkeeper who can actually make saves rather than wave at the ball as it continually flies past him. In no-man’s land for the second goal and made the finish easy.
Davies – 3 – Poor defensively. Kind of ok coming forward but likes running down a blind alley and giving the ball away.
Harper – 1 – Poor use of the football and shocking defensively. Struggling with the step up to full time football, miles behind the pace of the game. At the minute, not fit to lace Jack Armer’s boots.
Hayden – 2 – Struggled to get in Wrexham’s team last season and now it’s fairly obvious why. About as dominant in the penalty area as a shagged out hand-bag. Is probably a worse footballer than when he sacked us off the first time.
Lavelle – 1 – Why? Made a couple of blocks, but his pitiful attempt at defending for the second goal says everything about his quality. A better option than Barclay? I’d prefer a youth team player filling in rather than Lavelle’s constant ineptitude.
McGeouch – 4 – Lovely assist for our second goal, but his passing was variable today. Can’t help but believe he’d be better off in advanced role where his passing wouldn’t be so much of a liability if it’s not on point and also as he’s the only player capable of creating goals with passes like this.
Biggins – 0 – Out of position and faded in and out of the game to zero effect. At least Sadi was getting involved, Biggins vanished so much off the radar Rudd probably forgot he was on the pitch at half-time. Needs to up his game massively. We loaned him why?
Mellish – 1 – Awful in midfield, half-arsed in defence, he’s got his big contract why does he care about anything else? Technically awful. Did hit the post, but whoopee-do. I wonder how much Wigan would pay for him now?
Sadi - 4 - Just coming into the game and extremely unfortunate to be subbed. We struggled to get him involved in the first half, but that wasn't his fault, our tactical set-up was nonsense.
Jones – 2 – Failed with every single dribble attempt, but did win some dead balls and put a couple of useful looking crosses. Looks like he can barely be arsed, just what we require in a relegation fight.
Wyke – 4 – Two goals, but Hell’s bells his all round contribution was poor. Maybe you could argue he’s only in the team to score goals, which he did, but in our position it’s a luxury we can’t afford to have someone on the pitch whose ability on and off the ball is so poor.
Subs:
Armstrong – ran about a bit but has forgotten he’s supposed to be a striker. His touch in and around the opposition penalty area is criminal.
Vela – Chubby, uninfluential, not good enough.
Neal – What more can you say? Slow, chunky, donkey. We’re chasing the game and bring this off the bench? Shameful.
O’Donoghue – Bright when involved but had virtually no time, should’ve been given an opportunity ahead of Neal and Vela.
